Safely Dispose of Medications

Many medications remained, including morphine. Dispose of these responsibly please.
DO NOT FLUSH unused medications.
DO NOT POUR them down a sink or drain.

You can safely dispose of unused and expired medications in your household trash. Of the many options, we found this one to be the best alternatives (and it gave us something to do).

  • Pour all medications into glass or stainless steel bowl (this includes pills, capsules, liquids, sprays). Cover with boiling water and wait for the water to dissolve pills and capsules. Mix all the medicines together.
  • Carefully add kitty litter, coffee grounds or anything that mixes with the paste in the bowl. Stir thoroughly. Essentially you are making this non-appealing to pets, children, and wild creatures.
  • Place contents in a plastic bag or empty coffee can, and put in the trash.
  • You have now rendered the medications unappealing and impossible to consume.

PROTECT PRIVACY

Don’t forget to remove and destroy ALL the identifying personal information on bottles, boxes, jars, pharmacy bags, etc. before throwing away or shredding.

Consult your pharmacist with any questions you may have.
